Paying by card in Armenia

In Armenia, Rumto cards are accepted wherever Visa or Mastercard works: in shops and cafés and on the websites of Armenian services.

How to pay

  1. Get a Rumto virtual card and check that Armenia isn’t on its list of restricted countries. The app shows the list before you buy.
  2. Top up your wallet with crypto and move funds to the card.
  3. Add the card to Apple Pay or Google Pay to pay in shops, or use the card details online.

Important: before you buy a card, check in the app that it works in Armenia. Each card has its own list of countries where it can’t be used, and the list may be updated as international rules change. If a payment is declined in a country that isn’t on the list, contact support.

Currency and paying at the till

Armenia’s currency is the Armenian dram (AMD). If the terminal offers to charge you in dollars or another currency, choose the dram. The local currency is almost always cheaper: see dynamic currency conversion.

The card is for cashless payments only, so you can’t withdraw cash at an ATM with it. It has no PIN code; if a terminal asks for one, use another till or terminal.
