In Thailand, shops, street food stalls, markets and cafés often ask you to scan a QR code. Most of them show the national Thai QR Payment code, which locals pay through their banking apps. Visitors usually don’t have a Thai bank account, so they end up paying cash. With Rumto you can pay by QR in Thailand straight from your wallet balance, and you don’t need a card for it.
What you need
- A Rumto account in the app.
- Money on your Rumto balance. You top it up with crypto: USDT, USDC, Bitcoin and 100+ other coins.
- Camera access for the app.
How to pay by QR
- Check that your balance covers the purchase.
- Open QR payments in the app. You’ll find it on the Home tab, in Cards and in the Hub.
- Tap scan and point the camera at the merchant’s QR code.
- Check the amount on the confirmation screen and tap Confirm.
The app shows limits and terms before you confirm. After you confirm, the payment goes through right away and can’t be cancelled, so check the amount first.
QR or card in Thailand
QR works for everyday purchases on the spot. A virtual card is what you need for hotel and flight bookings, online services and subscriptions, and for adding to Apple Pay or Google Pay. Both work from the same Rumto balance, so you can keep one balance for the whole trip.
Before you go
The list of countries where QR payments work can change. Check it in the app before the trip.
Important: before you buy a card, check in the app that it works in Thailand. Each card has its own list of countries where it can’t be used, and the list may be updated as international rules change. If a payment is declined in a country that isn’t on the list, contact support.
